Issue #26

Greetings!

Once again I am very excited to bring you another edition of Carving Magazine. The contributors keep coming up with outstanding projects for you to try, techniques for you to learn, and profiles to share.

Clown Fish

In this issue we have five step-by-step projects for you to work on. You can carve a relief baseball player with Ivan Whillock or create a colorful clown fish with Donna Menke. In addition, William Gray shares a western boots and belt project, Paul Rolfe teaches us about a Newport-style shell, and Dennis Clark shows us his secret to creating an amazingly realistic weathered-wood habitat.

As always, we have powerful technique articles that will help you increase your skill level. You can try painting a face with Kelley Stadelman or carving a nose with Chris Howard. Joe Dillett shows how to select the perfect carving wood and Ol’ Don Burgdorf shares a great mini-seminar on carving hats.

Also, we have three profile articles that will have you asking yourself, “How’d they do that?” Our profiles include Carving in Kashmir with John Call, the 2008 Ward World Champions with Wes Demarest, and the beautiful photography of Marc Featherly at the International Woodcarvers Congress.

Don’t forget to enter a carving in our Carving Cruise for Two Contest. Next winter, you may just find yourself basking in the sun on the Mexican Riviera.

Happy Carving!
Chris
