Commission Carving by Ivan Whillock

I love the projects in this issue: A Bark House by Karen Henderson, a Bluegill by Wanda Rushing Reichert, a Chestnut Clock by Paul Rolfe, and a Chip-Carved Pen & Pencil Box from Gary MacKay. We also added a cute Mini-Gator project that is a perfect idea for your next carving club carve-in. As always we have fantastic technique articles to help you build your arsenal of skills: Sharpening Micro Tools with Ev Ellenwood, Carving the Mouth with Power with Chris Howard, and an in-depth look at the process of commission carving with Ivan Whillock.

We also included four profile articles to give you a closer look at some outstanding artists: Fred Cogelow, Grinling Gibbons, and Linda Master. The fourth profile features the winners from the 2008 National Caricature Competition…you’ll be amazed.

And speaking of competitions…look for the results of our Carving Cruise Carving Competition in a future issue. There are so many outstanding entries, the judges are going to have a very difficult time choosing the winner.

All in all, this issue has a lot to offer. Drop me a comment if you have a hint or suggestion…I’d love to hear from you!

Happy Carving!
Chris
