I want to begin by saying a big THANK YOU to all of Carving Magazine’s contributors out there. Over the past eight plus years, you have provided us with such fantastic projects, informative technique articles, and inspiring profiles to share with our readers. It is an honor to be able to work with you, and I have to tell you…it has been a whole lotta fun.
I also would like to invite new contributors to submit their ideas. Send me an e-mail with details of your one-of-a-kind project ideas. Tell me about a unique carver in your club, or share some carving techniques that you haven’t seen anywhere else. You never know…you may just end up in the next edition of Carving Magazine.
This special 9th anniversary issue features a collection of contributors who have some exciting things to share.
We have outstanding step-by-step projects from Ivan Whillock (The Sliding Hill and Lifting Off), Marv Kaisersatt (The Shoveler), Roy Gibson (Snowflake Bellows), Dave Rushlo (The Mountain Man), Chris Howard (“Carving an Heirloom Mantel”), Charles Eiler (Traditional African Head), Thomas McCollum (“Carving a Realistic Snake”), and Dave Disselbrett (Folk Art Chicken).
We also have very cool technique articles from Stefanie Rocknak (“The Making of a Queen”) and Susan Moreno (“Drawing Caricatures”). And in every issue, you can look forward to learning new techniques in Susan Alexander’s very popular column—Let’s Talk Carving.

There are also two excellent profile articles—“Behind the Badge: Bob Reitmeyer” and “Michigan’s Quiet Icon,” featuring Ed Sowulewski.
All in all, I think we have a winner here.
Till next time…Happy Carving —Chris
