I went to a marketplace today :-)

Today a friend and I went to the carving show in Belleville, IL and I bought a fantastic little carving by Desiree Hajny. I've had a couple of her books for years but this was the first time I've ever met her. It was a real treat.

Now isn't that the sweetest little piece!!! She does beautiful work. Great carving Nancy, I'm sure it's a thrill for you to have it, I know I would be.

Before they send me over the standing part of the fore sheet, I'd like to pipe: "Splice the Main Brace" ...one more time.

Thanks for showing that to us, Nancy. It did cost me, however!

I looked for her work on the web, and found her carving of a couple of racoons, so I bought it for my wife. My wife is feeding a couple of racoons in our back yard. (We've been talking to wildlife folks and vet's about the rabies thing, so we are informed!)

Anyway, I was not familiar with her work, but we will soon have what may turn out to be the start of a collection.

Thanks again! (You don't do so bad yourself, ya know!!! ;) )

Mike !! WHERE on the web did you find her work ?? I asked her and her husband about a web site and they said they had none ... instead they send out CDs when they have one of those ready. I'm on their mailing list now but ............................

Tell your wife that I fully understand about feeding 'coons. Oh, how I love those little beggars. Skunks too :D

I did a google on Desiree Hajny, and got several links. This is the one that led me to the carvings:
http://www.armiks.com/desiree-hajny/index.html

My wife found a small, immature, 'coon on the deck, and wanted to feed it. I balked somewhat, evidently influnced by inaccurate information about racoons and rabies in our county.

She called a wildlife expert, and they gave her info that led to us feeding "Ms.Beasly"!

It wasn't long before a brother and a sister showed up. Now, after the 'kids' get their shift, mom and dad come in and clean up what is left. We're going through various brands of cat and dog foods, and these critters are getting HUGE!

The first young'un has at least doubled in size in 5 or 6 weeks, and they are all fat and happy. (Much healthier than they were)

They're pretty keen little guys, and a bunch of fun to feed. I'm working on that carving of the 'coon under santa's hat, don't know if I'll get done in time tho!

Here's the pic from the web page:
