Is It Safe To Post Here?

Postby lodoughty » Thu Oct 04, 2007 6:51 am

I note that a recent post asks why there seems to be a lack of interest in these forums. I'd like to join a forum where we can speak honestly but respectfully about carving. Is this the place?[/img]

Only for those people we know...who are you? Oh you are the guy that took off about 2/3 weeks ago and said he would be back in a week LOL How was your trip Lynn? As far as posting, I think you can pretty much give your opinion, but like anywhere, blasting someone for their opinion is frowned on.... :D ....Except! You do know, Nancy is fair game anytime don't you?

Welcome back Lynn, as my Dad always said "honesty is the best policy", so for me I would like people to give me their honest opinion about my carvings,or my comments , that way i can only improve .

Sure I'll start commenting again but this forum sure is hard to use. Any pointers you can offer to make it easier to check whats new each day?

Lynn, Glad to see you! Yep, the mechanics of this forum are rather difficult to say the least. I have been commenting (mildly complaining) about the 2 1/2 million steps one must go through to post a photo along with a posting. It has been my contention that the lack of consistent activity on the forum is because of the difficulties in posting photos. There are some great folks here, but not enough activity...Tom H

Lynn: Bookmark this:
http://www.carvingmagazine.com/phpBB2/ and start there. In the upper right corner, you should see a link "View posts since last visit". If you click this, you get a page that has all the posts since you last logged in. I agree that it is a pain in the patoot to post photos. Probably best (easiest) way for you is to have the photos on your blog, get the URL that goes directly to the photo, and then put the URL into your post with the BBCode stuff...

Thanks Claude! Has anyone suggested to the administrators of this forum that there would probably be a lot more activity if it were made a little easier to access?

I just scan down the main page and check the dates...as I look in everyday, I know to just read the currents dates posts.

Yes but not much lately....this site was Marnies baby and sent she has passed, the new group is trying to get their feet on the ground mainly with the magazine and this I think is probably secondary........I believe everyone wants to keep everything going and this forum is a good source for them for new subscribers...so guess we need to wait and see what happens...you can always go to the chat on Sunday mornings (mountain time) at 11am, on Tue afternoon at 1pm, again mountain time and on thurs??? geez forgot the time on thursday!

I have noticed that the little bell shaped things to the left of the topics are orange when something new has been posted since the last time visited. And the new post inside the main topics are bold when something new has been posted.

Rots of Ruck posting pictures!!!!!
God Bless You,
Terry

I do have to admit that I am not all that much of a wizz on the computer. Maybe that's why I find the mechanics of posting photos so difficult. Plus, whenever I check in to the site I click on to the phrase that says something like "show all posts since last logged in". Most of the time it shows nothing, but in fact there are posts sine the last time I checked in. You know there just may be something to that ol saying "you can't teach old dogs new tricks". Maybe that's why I still have so much trouble carving eyes....Tom H

Hello,

I am quickly finding out why Marnie was always up till 3am each night.

Currently I have been a bit quiet because the next magazine is due at the end of the month ... and I am trying to figure out the new program.

I'll try to jot down any suggestions you folks have and make mention to the publishers when we talk. They have said that these forums and chat rooms are ours to do with as we want ... so suggest away ...

I haven't yet tried to upload photos so I am not sure how difficult it is.

I did notice the orange flag next to a subject to tell me if there was a something new in that subject. I have found that to be very helpful.

Thanks for the great input ... and I'll be able to get more involved in a few weeks.

Chris
