Hello Chris,

I haven't been thru the entire mag. yet but it is looking good so far.

In the drawing area I would like to see some in depth info. on how to draw acanthus and architectural elements. Where to start, scale, what to include and not, ect.

I also would like to see more carvings where the carver mixes the different types of carving together, with his process included. Like an abstract carving with relief carving on that abstract or even lettering. Chip carving on a relief carving. I believe that by mixing types of carving it makes the carver go outside the box and makes the piece more art appealing. Just a thought.
Thanks Chris and keep up the great work with the Mag.

Sure thing Chris. Actually, these business issues are ones that I think are never fully and completely addressed because the landscape is always changing. Joe's articles were an excellent example of what I'd like to see more of, but his is one unique perspective. I'd like to see this addressed from a variety of perspectives and how it differs by subject matter or carving styles (caricature, walking sticks, relief, sculpture - realistic animals and birds or busts, and abstract art, chainsaw, etc.) and markets (holiday, fantasy, realistic). How is the market for carving evolving? How are pros developing their market? What activities do they engage in and what works well for them? etc.

I see this as a regular column with a variety of possible approaches. I am not sure how open pros are to exploring these topics in detail and opening up about their financial lives, but I'd sure like to see these topics written about. I wish I had the time and the contacts because I'd love to do this research myself, but alas . . . probably not in the cards.

Cheers!

Cool! BTW - Really liking the new issue so far. Thanks for soliciting our input. I realize that not all good ideas pan out, but it's great that you are asking for input and listening.

I know this must have been a tough thing to step into your sister's shoes and carry this forward. You are doing a great job in a difficult situation. My sincerest thanks for your hard work.

Yup ... better keep that subscription up ... never know what we'll do next.

It was very, very difficult over the holidays .... I have her photo right next to the computer ... I just worked right through them. My kids do make things easier ... they are too much fun ... ages 15, 7 & 4.

Perhaps some articles, that are kinda like the "profiles" in other magazines. But have the profile article, in the 1st person with the author focusing on how he or she got into the carving and selling their carvings. With articles like that one could hit on lots of the varying techniques that have been used. What was successful and not so successful too.

My main interest was the birds of prey. I'll have to get the magazine and look at the names of the articles.

Mottles: Sounds great ....

HiHo: It might be worth a call to subscription services (800-943-6877) most people received their issue weeks ago ...
