Carving an Heirloom Mantel

Carving an heirloom mantel will bring days of fun to you and years of enjoyment to the person who receives it.

This carving can be mastered by the intermediate carver in forty hours or less. The mantel is 6' long; the middle 3' is a stylized leaf pattern that is carved in white oak. I have created this carving with a power carver and hand tools; however, it can be accomplished strictly by hand tools.
